ESPECIAL VMA 1988: Michael Jackson recebe o Vídeo Vanguard Award

Em 1988, a MTV queria fazer o Video Music Awards uma noite que entrasse na história da música. Pra isso, a emissora reuniu os maiores astros do Rock dos anos 80 e homenageou  Michael Jackson, que não tinha mais como fugir da premiação, e  -- mesmo não presente -- recebeu o Vídeo Vanguard Award por sua imensa contribuição musical na cultura pop mundial com sua carreira e videoclipes. Além de receber do fenômeno pop na premiação pela primeira vez, o VMA de 1988 foi a estreia de bandas como Aerosmith e Guns 'n' Roses.

Os australianos da banda INXS foram os maiores vencedores da noite, ganhando 5 prêmios das 9 nove indicações. Entre as vitórias, o grupo levou para casa os prêmios de  "Vídeo do Ano" e "Escolha da Audiência"

VÍDEO VANGUARD AWARD

Apesar de dar às caras pela primeira vez no VMA, Michael Jackson não estava presente na premiação. O popstar recebeu o Video Vanguard Award das mãos do vencedor do ano passado, o britânico Peter Gabriel, durante a Bad World Tour que estava em Londres na época. Michael fez um discurso tímido e transmitiu a performance de "Bad" como um número musical no VMA daquele ano. Épico, não?
